Born in Abilene, Kansas, his brothers were President Dwight Eisenhower, attorney Edgar N. Eisenhower, and university president Milton Eisenhower. After graduation, he worked a number of different jobs including on a passenger ship, for a power company, and at a newspaper. After working on a passenger ship, he worked in Pennsylvania with West Penn Power Company and in Illinois with Suburban Newspapers.
